» 3 Peaks Mountain Marathon, Yorkshire
Published 05/4/2008
Posted for Julian Kerby and Jason King
This year myself and some friends will be attempting the 3 Peaks Mountain Marathon in Yorkshire in under 6 hours. This includes three major peaks, Pen-y-Ghent (2,290 ft), Whernside (2,429 ft) and Ingleborough (2,390 ft) which equates to over 5,000 ft of ascent, as well as the full 26 miles and 234 yards of a traditional marathon.
We will be asking for donations and sponsors towards a charity close to our hearts. Tilly is a wonderful little girl who goes to school with our children and even through she has been through more pain in her 9 years than most go through in a lifetime, she remains upbeat and humorous throughout it all.
She has recently spent 6 months in America having pioneering operations on her pelvic girdle and legs, as well as physiotheraphy, and is now back in the UK at Great Ormond Street Hospital where her continued physio takes place.
Thank you for your anticipated support.

» Tilly's Final Hip Operation
Published 10/29/2007
I'm sitting here typing with tears in my eyes for two reasons:
1. Like most parents, I hate to see my kids in any sort of pain and Tilly is obviously in a lot at the moment.
2. I am the proudest dad in the World as she laughed with us until she fell asleep in the operating theatre, and she keeps asking me to tell her Head Teacher to throw away her wheelchair!
We started out at 5.30am this morning on our journey to Fairfax and surgery started at approximately 8.30am. In case you haven't experienced it, and I then hope you never do, putting your child to sleep for major surgery is an awful experience. The difference to the build up this time was clear to me and Debra in that we are being treated as human beings here, unlike in the awful system back home. The guy in the operating Team who originated from London delayed his vacation by a week so that he could be a part of today with Tilly, as did his lovely partner. In addition they delivered a bag of English sweets and a card to Tilly whilst she was waiting, not to eat pre-surgery of course!!! One of the box's of sweets we had never seen before, and I hope I never see again! The reason, they were Harry Potter jelly beans with the most revolting flavours and Tilly decided that I should eat them, one-by-one, without knowing the flavour(s). I gagged; ear wax, vomit, grass, dirt, pepper and sausage among the list of flavours I had to eat, which made Debra and Tilly cry with laughter!!! If I had taken the sardine flavour, which Debra took away, I would have definitely been ill.
The surgery and re-splinting took 6-7 hours today so she has had a very long and uncomfortable day.
Tilly is now recovering in Intensive Care, whilst taking a range of pain relief medications including morphine. She has a new hip-spike in place which will remain for 3-4 weeks to keep the hips firmly in place.
She has a long way to go yet but I know she has the spirit to get there.
All the best to you all, got to get back to the room.

Tilly will be operated on again this coming Monday and will be transferred at approximately 5.30am to Fairfax, Virginia. She will remain at Fairfax for a few days following surgery, and then transferred back to the NIH so that the 'CINCA/NOMID' experts can keep close watch.
Tilly is very worried and keeps asking questions about the surgery, which is totally understandable.
We will keep you posted on subsequent events.
Kind regards
Colin
» Tilly's Surgery
Published 10/10/2007
We left the Inn this morning at 5.30am to travel to the Fairfax Hospital in Virginia for the long awaited surgery. We kept Tilly busy and amused the previous day to keep her spirits high and she responded really well. Also she ate well, 3 lamb chops, mash and broccoli which helped her to fall asleep by 9.30pm.
On arrival at the Hospital I went with Tilly through to the pre-op area and the surgery team came to meet us. Dr Reign (Tilly calls the magic man, and he is) introduced us to his Team which included a guy from London whom he thought would make us feel at home. Dr Reign and his Team were wonderful with us and Tilly was so brave and happy right up until the gas and air took effect. I must admit although I was happy she was comfortable, I cried my eyes out leaving her asleep as it is a horrible feeling.
After four anxious hours Dr Reign came to find us and he informed us that the Team were so happy with the surgery to correct Tilly's hip that was completely dislocated. I was shown x-rays of the pre and post condition and I must say that the Team were all so ecstatic at the results. They also explained that the other hip would need to be done in 3-4 weeks time as the pressure on the badly damaged hip could cause complications.
Tilly was transferred to Intensive Care where she remains in the short term and I have just left her asleep as she is very tired. The control of the pain post-surgery has been difficult, but they are doing everything possible within their means and you feel confident in their genuine approach.
Debra took Oliver back to the Inn late this afternoon as he was very tired and confused. We did not want him to see Tilly in ICU as she is suffering and it is very distressing for anyone let alone a 4 year old child.
Tilly wants to go home and keeps telling me how much she is missing her friends. Thanks to all her kind friends for keeping in touch with her via email, she loves reading all of them.
Tilly is currently lying on her back in a cast from foot to chest and as you can imagine this will take some time in getting used to.
I gave her drink of water earlier, through a straw, and she said thanks Waiter!!! A good sign that she is getting better!
Got to get back to the Room so thanks for reading Tilly's latest news.
Kind regards

The golf day organised at Abridge on Friday 5th October by Knight Build Limited raised a staggering 30,000 for Tilly's Appeal Fund!
My parents called me this evening to inform me that the day was a huge success. A video of Tilly thanking everyone was played during the evening and was watched by a very large audience including the legendary World Cup winning England Star 'Jason Leonard'!
Our thanks to everyone that participated on the day, and especially to John & Anthea Knight, Edward Daize & everyone associated with Knight Build Limited, Jason Leonard and my parents, Keith & Fran, for helping on my behalf.
We can never thank you all enough in helping Tilly to realise a dream of walking by herself, which most of us take for granted.
We are totally blown away by your kindness and support for our beautiful daughter.

Following the Research, Tilly will be transfered to Virginia during the first week of October to undergo hip surgery.
Feeling nervous now the time has come, but full of hope that Tilly can realise her dream to walk independantly.

Friday 13th July 2007 at The Venue' in London!!! I will finally be boxing in 3 weeks time! I have been training for a few weeks now and despite training 2-3 times a week, it's not getting any easier!!!
I have a brilliant trainer, Micky, at the Real Fight Club who is pushing me all the way in support of the up an coming event.
Alan Lacey, founder of The Real Fight Club, has been magnificent in helping myself and 'Tillys Appeal Fund'. He is informed me last week that the profit's raised by the intended auction event on the night will be donated to our cause. This kind support is very well appreciated but I am not surprised to be honest as Alan is a very decent man.
Colin in training with proud Tilly supporting her dad
For ticket information please contact: www.therealfightclub.co.uk The profits of the proceeds for sponsorship and the auction will be split between 'Tilly's Appeal Fund' and 'The Richard House Hospice'. The hospice opened recently in London and provides support and restbite to parents and their terminally ill children. We have access to a local hospice and know the incredible support that is given during the most difficult times faced by parents with terminally ill children.
Please offer your support by kindly offering to sponsor me, Tilly's dad, for the up and coming event!!! Should you wish to support by sponsoring, please email me: colinbailey828@btinternet.com
Looking forward to the event and to hopefully raising a helpful amount for both very good causes, with your support of course!!!

A close friend of ours, Ashley Smith, discussed Tilly's plight with a friend of his over the past few weeks. His friend was very touched by Tilly's story and, subsequently, decided to approach his Company to ask for support.
As a result of his approach a large financial City based company has very kindly donated £500 to the Fund.
We thanks you so much for your kindness in helping towards our daughter's plight.
